Research Technician Opportunity in Cancer Biology and Innate Immunity

The newly established Cho Laboratory at Stony Brook University is seeking a motivated and dependable Research Technician to join our growing research team.

Our laboratory studies how DNA damage in cancer cells activates innate immune signaling and antitumor responses. We aim to identify new molecular regulators that may restore or enhance immune recognition of damaged tumor cells.

This position is well suited for someone interested in gaining hands-on experience in cell and molecular biology while contributing to the development of a new research laboratory. Applicants at different stages of training, including recent graduates and experienced research technicians, are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

The Research Technician will assist with routine research activities and daily laboratory operations. Responsibilities may include:

• Mammalian cell culture and sample preparation
• Routine cell and molecular biology experiments
• Preparation of media, buffers, reagents, and other laboratory materials
• Collection, organization, and documentation of experimental data
• Organization of research samples, freezer inventories, and laboratory records
• Ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies
• General laboratory organization and basic equipment upkeep
• Learning, testing, or helping optimize new experimental techniques as experience develops
• Participation in laboratory meetings and scientific discussions

Limited mouse-related work, such as basic animal handling or tissue collection, may be introduced later after appropriate training.

The specific responsibilities and level of independence will be matched to the technician’s education, prior experience, and training progress.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

• A high school diploma/GED or higher degree
• Previous laboratory experience appropriate to the position level
• An interest in cell biology, molecular biology, cancer biology, or related biomedical research
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• The ability to maintain accurate laboratory records
• The ability to work reliably both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Experience or coursework in one or more of the following areas is helpful but not required for all position levels:

• Biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related field
• Mammalian cell culture
• Basic molecular or cellular biology techniques
• Media and reagent preparation
• Sample processing and laboratory record keeping
• Inventory or research sample management
• Basic mouse handling or tissue collection

Training will be provided based on the selected candidate’s previous experience.

The appointment may be made at the Research Technician I, II, or III level, depending on qualifications, experience, responsibilities, and institutional approval.
